Symptoms
Zn deficient plants are stunted and have twisted, outward bending leaves
Reasons
Zinc Deficiency
Young plants are particularly sensitive to Zn deficiency.
Problems are more common on high pH or calcareous soils or during cold, wet weather.
Zinc deficiency made worse by
- Organic soils
- High pH soils
- Soils rich in phosphorus
- Soils receiving high phosphorus application
- Cold wet conditions
Zinc is important for
- Photosynthesis
- Function of growth regulators for internode elongation
- Improved seed germination and seed yield
- Improved bulb yield
