Pavut - Chlorosis
Symptoms
Young leaves develop intercostal chlorosis. Leaves may then become bleached.
Brown lesions develop on veins, lamina and petioles as deficiency continues.
Reasons
Iron deficiency (right)
The availibility of Fe declines above pH 6.0 and may be restricted by excessive P. High pH soils saturated with moisture occuring with low temperatures can be the reason for transient Fe deficiency.

Symptoms
Young leaves develop intercostal chlorosis. Leaves may then become bleached.
Brown lesions develop on veins, lamina and petioles as deficiency continues.
Reasons
Iron deficiency
The availibility of Fe declines above pH 6.0 and may be restricted by excessive P supply. High pH soils saturated with moisture occuring with low temperatures can be the reason for transient Fe deficiency.
Iron deficiency vs. healthy plant made worse by
- High pH
- Water logged soils
- Calcareous soils
- High copper, manganese or zinc soils
Iron is important for
- Healthy green foliage
- Improved crop development
